![]() I don't think that what they're doing is wrong because they're doing it as service, and nothing is expected in return. Should they not be willing to go out of their way for people just because they'd like to see them convert? Personally, I think that would be kind of stupid. Maybe you could come back next week and tell us a little bit about your religion." Now how often do you think that happens? I'd say maybe once for every 100 times the missionaries do some service. Sure, they'd undoubtedly be happy if some of these people were to say, "Thanks guys! We really appreciate your help. I would agree that ulterior motives are not honorable motives, but where do you draw the line? I've seen a number of instances in which people on this forum have mentioned the times the Mormon missionaries have stopped by and offered to help people stain a fence, rake leaves, shovel snow, etc. Ulterior motives are not honorable motives. This is quite different than the two times I've been in a catholic hospital, and have been briefly visited by a protestant minister. Doubly offensive since they were trying to "steal" christians from one denomination (catholic) to their denomination. I watched as Mormon missionaries converged on the poor, immigrant neighborhoods of Latinos in Northern Virginia. Doing good things with the ulterior motive of conversion. Even as an atheist, there are so many things that I can think of that missionaries could do to make the world a better place without - in this case - throwing their lives away or disrespecting other people(s).
